In July 2018 the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was published which sets out the Government’s planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied.

A number of Court of Appeal decisions and subsequent rewording of policy via Written Ministerial Statements has driven this revision of the original NPPF.  The revised NPPF is intended to further clarify how Local Planning Authorities (LPA’s) should reach planning decisions as well as more effectively manage the expectations of planning applicants.

The main changes from the original NPPF centre on among other things a wider definition of ‘Affordable Housing’ (Housing Delivery Test), clarification regarding the identification of land for residential development and using land for development more efficiently.  There have also been changes to the section relating to Green Belt.
